My dad and uncle Fili worked in the vineyards on weekends, and I helped out as a kid. In those days, international sports figures probably didn’t have the same “influencer” status as they do today, nor the millions of dollars in endorsement fees. Vineyards are planted at a higher altitude, resulting in more acidity.

Franciacorta wine producer, Ricci Curbastro said, “We have 60 different soil types here that can change every few meters” The climate in Franciacorta is considered warm continental, which is influenced by the Alps. Also, the winery is Carbon Footprint certified since 2012.

In 1866, the king bought the first vineyard of Barolo and by 1870 winemaking began in the cellars of Fontanafredda using the indigenous grapes Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. The king’s son Count Emanuele Alberto of Mirafiori turned the estate into a full commercial winery with over 741 acres of wine vineyards.

The Merlot was sourced from two blocks of the Jackson Park vineyard, planted with the Petrus clone. The winemaker is Marcia Torres Forno.

You still get a lot of that strong oak influence, but it’s not quite as sweet. The wine is aged in “French oak, which is a little bit more of a modern take for Rioja,” adds Wines. “It It really does the wine a lot of favors. You get a lot more vanilla and baking spices. It just adds a lot of great complexity.”

So, influenced by her grandmother, who was her “guiding light,” Ntsiki took the initiative and established Aslina Wines in 2016, naming it in honor of her grandmother.
